How to take a screenshot or print from the AIM viewer

How to capture what you are looking at in the AIM 3D viewer — for reports, emails, or sharing a specific view with a colleague.

The AIM viewer does not have a built-in print or export button

If you want to capture what you are currently looking at in the 3D viewer — a specific room, a measurement, a Point of Interest, or a particular elevation — you have a few straightforward options depending on what you need.

Option 1: Take a screenshot using your operating system

The quickest way to capture exactly what is on screen.

On Windows: Press Windows key + Shift + S to open the snipping tool. Click and drag to select the area you want. The image is copied to your clipboard and can be pasted directly into an email, Word document, or Teams message.

Alternatively, press Print Screen to capture the whole screen, then paste it into an image editor to crop.

On Mac: Press Command + Shift + 4, then click and drag to select the area. The screenshot is saved to your desktop automatically and also copied to your clipboard.

Option 2: Use your browser's print function

If you want to print or save as PDF:

1. Navigate to the view you want to capture in AIM

2. Press Ctrl + P (Windows) or Command + P (Mac) to open the print dialog

3. Change the destination to Save as PDF if you want a file rather than a physical printout

4. Click Save or Print

Note: the browser print function captures the full page including the navigation chrome. A screenshot is usually cleaner if you just want the model view.

Option 3: Share a direct link to the view

If you want a colleague to see the same view rather than just a static image, copy the URL from your browser address bar while you are looking at the relevant area in AIM. Share that link directly — they will land in the same location in the model when they open it.

For external sharing with someone who does not have an AIM account, use the Site Shares feature. See article 3.4 - Sharing Sites with External Users for how to set this up.

Option 4: Use the Points of Interest photo feature

If you are on site and want to capture a high-quality image of a specific area for a report — rather than a viewer screenshot — use the 72MP HDR 360 degree photo feature in the AIM Capture app during the capture. These images are stored as Points of Interest and are accessible from the platform once the model is processed. They are far higher quality than a screenshot.
